These are the interview-style follow-up prompts at the end of the speaking paper.
Q8 Interview Q1DescriptionSpeaking Interview
Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. I'd like to ask you some questions about your reading habits. First, what kind of books do your family or friends generally like to read? For example, do they prefer fiction, nonfiction, biographies, or other types?
🎧 Question Audio
C1-C2 Sample Answer
CEFR C1-C2 target
State the habit or experience directly, then add a reflective reason.
Use pauses after contrast markers such as although, not simply, and rather than.
My family and friends generally like fiction and biographies. Fiction gives them a break from daily life, while biographies are inspiring because they show how real people handled challenges. Some also read nonfiction, especially when it connects to work or personal interests. Their reading choices show a balance between escape and insight, which is why fiction and biography both appeal.

I see when you read your favorite book, do you prefer to read it in a quiet place? Or do you like to read it where there is some background noise? Why?

Compare options naturally instead of listing them mechanically.
Stress the phrase that shows preference or priority.
I prefer reading in a quiet place because it helps me enter the story more fully. Background noise makes it harder for me to remember details. If the book is light, noise is fine, but for serious reading I need calm surroundings. Quiet reading lets me sustain deep attention, which is difficult when the environment keeps pulling me outward.

Interesting. Next I'd like to get your opinion if you have time to read one novel, do you think it more worthwhile to read an old classic that many readers love? Or would you choose a newly published novel that tells a modern story? Why?
🎧 Question Audio
C1-C2 Sample Answer
CEFR C1-C2 target
Build a short narrative or hypothetical with a clear cause-and-effect line.
Segment the response into choice, reason, and consequence.
If I had time for one novel, I would probably choose a classic. A classic has lasted because many readers found something meaningful in it. New novels can be exciting, but a classic gives me a chance to understand references, themes, and ideas that shaped later books. A classic is worthwhile because it offers cultural depth and a conversation with readers across generations.

Good points. I just have one more question. Some people believe that reading helps improve one's imagination and creativity. Do you agree with this idea? Or do you think there are other activities that can also enhance these skills? Explain why you think so.

C1-C2 Sample Answer

Give a nuanced position with concession before your main argument.
Use intonation to signal contrast, qualification, and final judgment.
I agree that reading improves imagination and creativity. When people read, they build scenes, voices, and emotions in their own minds. Other activities like drawing or games can also help, but reading is powerful because it asks the reader to complete the world of the story. Reading strengthens imagination because it requires active mental construction, unlike media that supplies every image for us.
