In turn, happiness enhances creativity, problem solving skills, things like that. So when you're happy, you're not just feeling good, you're thinking better, which motivates you to work better. A study in a leading business magazine takes this further. The authors found that happiness spreads, yes, from a company's leaders to its employees. But what I find remarkable is that the study found that it also extends to the customers or clients. With a positive work environment, the employees feel more committed and engaged. They serve clients better, improving their sense of well-being. And in healthcare settings, that means better health outcomes for clients.

You’re probably familiar with GPS, which also uses location data. GPS is used for navigation and positioning, and it relies on hardware like satellite, right? Our phones use it. We use GPS on our phones to get directions to places. On the other hand, GIS is software-based and is used for making decisions. Picture a trucking company delivering furniture. They’d use GPS to track where trucks are and where they’re headed. The company might use GIS, though, to analyze the amount of fuel that trucks use on particular routes. They’d analyze traffic patterns, elevation changes, things like that, to make decisions about shipping routes. Geographers can use GIS to study the interactions between humans and the environment. Say some farms start using a new fertilizer. GIS can analyze the location of those farms, including nearby streams. GIS can then analyze rainfall patterns in those locations. By combining and analyzing all these data, GIS helps researchers predict where the fertilizer is likely to wind up polluting a stream. Quite useful. GIS software can also create maps of important buildings and sites in historic districts of cities, then assess for things like how development nearby would impact the historic district. This aids with conservation and managing these important locations.
