Dr. Achebe Let's continue talking about consumer behavior. We have been discussing different ways people go about choosing what products to buy, and there are many potential sources of information and advice for consumers. In your opinion, which is the better strategy for making purchasing decisions, relying on advice from friends and family, or depending on information from online sources? Why? Claire Asking friends and family members for product recommendations might seem like an easier option, but it might take too much time to get all the information you need. An internet search would be much more efficient. There are many consumer magazines available online that compile lots of data to compare the advantages and disadvantages of one product versus another. Paul The last time I bought a computer, I just watched a few videos online to make a decision, and now I regret that. My friends could have advised me better because they know my preferences and the kind of features that I am interested in. Consumers should get advice from the people around them to find the most suitable products.

Your professor is teaching a sociology class. Write a post responding to the professor's question. In your response, you should do the following. ·Express and support your opinion. ·Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words. An effective response will contain at least 100 words. Dr. Diaz This week, we discussed the importance of role models and opinion makers in society. One idea we discussed was the widespread impact of “influencers.” Influencers are people who are very active posting on social media and who have many followers. Influencers' posts and opinions can influence their followers' choices on everything from fashion to politics. In your opinion, do social media influencers generally have a positive or negative effect on their followers? Why do you think so? Kelly Kelly I think the influencers' effect is generally positive. People can learn about the latest trends and topics in a very quick and efficient way by following influencers. In the past, people had to spend time looking through magazines or visiting boutiques to even know what was trending. Paul I think influencers generally have a negative effect because they have far too much influence. I can think of one influencer who only has to mention a particular kind of sports shoe, and the next day they'll be sold out. The followers aren't really thinking for themselves; they're just blindly following the influencers' choices.

Your professor is teaching a class on environmental science. Write a post responding to the professor's question. In your response, you should do the following. Express and support your opinion. Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words. An effective response will contain at least 100 words. Dr. Achebe This week, we'll be discussing ways to address air pollution. One idea is introducing environmental taxes on air travel. Such taxes, also referred to as ecological taxes or green taxes, are extra charges that get added to the price of airplane tickets. Money collected from these taxes could be invested in environmentally friendly technologies or in promoting other, cleaner modes of transportation. Do you think there should be an environmental tax on air travel? Why or why not? Andrew We should impose environmental taxes on air travel. These taxes might encourage people to find cheaper, more eco-friendly ways to get places. In my country, many people use planes to fly a short distance because flights are relatively cheap when they could just as easily take a less polluting form of transportation. Claire Additional taxes on air travel will do little to solve the problem of air pollution. Airplane tickets would become more expensive, punishing passengers without incentivizing airlines to become more environmentally friendly. The airlines should pay the price to protect the environment, not their customers.

Dr. Gupta When people are choosing a career, there are many different factors to consider. What aspects of a job do people value most? Salary is a possible factor. These days, with work environments evolving, human interaction might be an important factor. If you had to choose, is it better to have a job with a high salary but little or no human interaction, or a job with a lower salary that allows for regular interaction with colleagues or customers? Why? Paul In order for people to be truly satisfied with a job they need validation. This can only come from frequent and productive interaction with coworkers who acknowledge their hard work and contributions. I think everyone is looking for a job where they will receive positive feedback from their colleagues and recognition for their achievements. Kelly I think that salary is the number one factor in determining whether a certain job is good or not. In any job interview, the first question many of us, including myself, really want answered is how much the job pays. Being a practical person, I would say the purpose of work is to earn money, not to socialize with others.

Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words. An effective response will contain at least 100 words. Dr. Diaz Today, we are going to discuss an emerging work arrangement known as job sharing. Job sharing is a type of employment in which one full-time position can be shared by two part-time workers that is, the two people share the work, hours, and pay of one job. For example, two part-time accountants share one full-time accounting position, splitting the responsibilities of the position. Do you think the job-sharing arrangement is a positive trend? Why or why not? Claire I'm not sure job sharing is a good idea. I think it would be too confusing for employers to keep track of who is working on which day or who is responsible for certain projects. Coworkers who have questions about certain projects would also get confused about which person to address their questions to. Paul I think job sharing can lead to more fulfilling lives for a lot of people. Many workers want to continue developing their careers but don't want to spend so much time working full-time jobs. Some people want to spend time developing their hobbies or taking classes, for example. Job sharing could be very convenient for their schedules.

Dr. Diaz Starting this week, we are going to discuss the effect that pollution has on our environment. Specifically, we will focus on the pollution of waterways, which has caused significant health problems around the world. Large amounts of plastics, industrial waste, and trash pollute the oceans and rivers. I want you to consider the following question: How much can individuals help solve the water pollution problem compared with large institutions such as corporations and governments? Please explain your position. Andrew Individual efforts will likely have little effect. It is better to focus on large corporations that do the most damage to our waterways. Think of the oil companies that have spills and factory owners that dump chemicals into the waterways. Individuals pollute the water too, but companies have much more impact. Business leaders need to set examples for the community. Claire I think individual people are the first step in solving the pollution problem. For example, when one person stops using harmful chemicals or helps clean up a local waterway, it can inspire others. They can use social media to spread the word and share examples of positive behavior. This can quickly become a grassroots movement for change.

Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words. An effective response will contain at least 100 words. Dr. Diaz What should children be learning in school? Many people believe that time in the classroom should be spent acquiring foundational knowledge in subjects like math, reading, science, and history. Others feel that it's important for a child's creativity to be nurtured, and thus the school curriculum must include classes in art and music. There's so much to learn, yet so little time in school to learn it all! What do you think should be included in the curriculum? Why? Claire I agree that traditional subjects like math, science and reading are important, but so are classes in art and music. Engaging with art and music can help children be more creative and can stimulate their imaginations, That in turn facilitates critical thinking, which is essential in any curriculum, so l am in favor of including art and music in the school day. Paul Sure, drawing pictures and listening to music is fun, but children can do that on their own time. The school day is too short as it is, and there is so much foundational knowledge in math, reading, science, and history that children need to learn; it is better to spend classroom time on that foundational knowledge and let kids explore art and music at home.

Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words. An effective response will contain at least 100 words. Dr. Diaz Some educators think that in our global, tech-oriented world, students need to focus on nonfiction texts, such as news stories, technical manuals, or other informational materials. They say that reading poetry, novels, and short stories is not the optimal use of the limited time that students have in the classroom. How do you view this approach to education? Should schools limit the teaching of fictional texts in favor of teaching more practical, nonfiction texts? Andrew Education has to evolve. Nowadays, there's an enormous amount of economic and political data freely available online. It's important that students can evaluate this information to understand local and world events in order to be good citizens. Reading fiction is a wonderful hobby, but school should prepare students for adult life and its responsibilities. Claire I spent a lot of class time in high school analyzing literature. I'm studying to be an engineer, so I admit that reading fiction in school was not directly applicable to my future occupation, but it did instill in me a love of reading, which is very valuable. I feel better equipped now to understand all sorts of written material.

Dr. Diaz This week we talked about how important taking time off from work or school is for people's well-being. Some people believe they get the most benefit when that time off is structured; that is, it involves planning in advance about what will be accomplished on that day. Others believe it is better to enjoy the day with no plan for how to spend it. In this discussion post, please indicate which of those approaches to spending time off from work or school you prefer, and why. Claire I find it beneficial to do some advance planning for my free time. I live far away from my family, so when I am getting ready to visit them during a school holiday, I always plan my time off from school very carefully. That way l have enough time to visit with each family member. Paul Personally, I prefer not to make any plans for my free time. I go to school, and l have a part-time job, and each week I make a schedule to be sure I can complete both my work and my studies. So when I have time off from work and school, i just want to relax with no plan.

Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words. An effective response will contain at least 100 words. Dr. Diaz We are discussing recent trends in consumer behavior. One trend is a decrease in the use of cash money. Consumers don't use physical money to pay for things as much as they used to. Online shopping has a big impact on this. But even when shopping in person, more people are using credit cards, cash cards, and phone apps to make purchases. So do you think the decrease in using cash is positive or negative? Why? Andrew I think it's great. I avoid using physical money. The main reason is that I don't want to carry around a wallet stuffed with paper bills and coins. I carry my mobile phone with me anyway, so why carry two things when I only need one? Using my phone to pay for things in the store is a huge convenience. Claire I think it's negative. lt's easier to keep track of your spending when you use cash. When paying with cards or phone apps, it's easy to ignore how much you spend and go over your budget. But with physical money, you are more aware of your spending, and if you run out of cash, you can't spend any more!

That’s when there are more jobs in the economy than there are qualified people to fill those jobs. During a labor shortage, companies have to compete with one another to attract people to work for them. In your online discussion, please explain what you think companies can do to make themselves more attractive to potential employees. Andrew I think one thing that makes a company attractive is location. When companies choose a location for a facility, they should think about whether it's a place that employees want to be. For example, locating a workplace in a big city where there are lots of shops and entertainment options could be a good way to attract new employees. Claire It might sound unimportant at first, but I have heard of companies that provide their employees with a variety of food options in their facility. These companies don't just have a cafeteria; they also provide coffee bars and free snack stations for their employees to make working there more enjoyable. I think this also makes employees feel appreciated.

Dr. Diaz Secondary or high school students (ages 14-18) who plan to attend university must begin thinking about what field of study they'll enter. Some students might be directed into certain fields by their parents and teachers. Others prefer to make their own choice based on their own interests and feelings. Do you believe that secondary school students should be allowed to choose their own field of study at university without being guided by parents and teachers? Why? Kelly I think it's a mistake to let students at that age make such an important decision on their own. They usually don't have the wisdom to choose appropriately. The people who know them best–their parents and teachers–will be more objective and give the best guidance. Andrew Choosing a field of study, and perhaps a career in that field based mainly on what others tell you to do seems wrong tome. My parents wanted me to study engineering, but I'm not interested in that; I want to help people learn. I know I’ll struggle more financially as a teacher, but I'm sure I'll be happier.

Dr. Achebe In class this week, we are looking at how markets work, particularly in regard to energy costs. Petroleum, also known simply as oil, is one of the most important international commodities. When the global market price of oil goes up, fuels such as gasoline (petrol) also become more expensive. Many people think governments should step in to protect consumers from increases in fuel prices. What is your view? Do you think governments should actively keep fuel prices low for consumers? Kelly I think it's a good government policy. Most people have to drive or use public transportation, like a bus, to get to work. When the price of gasoline goes up, it costs them more to get to work. People don't have a choice about whether to go to work or not, so they should be protected from price increases. Andrew I think the government keeping gas prices low is a bad policy. The biggest problem we face now is global climate change. The more expensive gasoline is, the less people will drive, and thus they will contribute fewer greenhouse gases to the air. Lowering the cost of gas just makes the problem worse.

Dr. Gupta This week, we'll be discussing ways in which schools can help expose their students (aged 5-18) to learning experiences beyond the classroom. Let's begin by discussing one popular idea that some schools are considering - offering outdoor classes once a month. On the day of outdoor classes students will be transported to local parks or nature preserves, and teachers can help students explore nature and learn about the environment. Do you think this is a good idea? Why or why not? Kelly Having outdoor classes once a month seems like an exciting way of providing students with interesting hands-on experiences. However, I don't think these classes would be a worthwhile use of instructional time and school resources. These classes could put substantial pressure on the school's financial resources and on teachers, who may have to redesign their lesson plans. Paul On the other hand, outdoor classes can increase students' motivation to learn about the interconnectedness of the natural world. These classes could provide great opportunities to teach students about pressing environmental issues, such as pollution, and ways to address these problems. It would deepen their understanding beyond what books alone could achieve and would be time well spent.

Dr. Achebe In many countries, the standard workweek consists of eight hours of work each day for five days per week. Now, though, some people advocate a shorter workweek: a four-day workweek with no decrease in workers' pay. There are advantages and disadvantages to this, of course. What is your opinion about instituting a shorter, four-day workweek, and why? Andrew l like that idea, but on one condition: that the workday is no longer than eight hours. I have heard some plans require ten hours a day for a four-day week. Most employees would find that exhausting, and it could actually be counterproductive to tire out your workers. Yes to four-day weeks, but no to ten-hour days! Claire In my country, the workweek is Monday to Friday plus half a day on Saturday, so moving to a four-day workweek would be too drastic a change! Workers might struggle to complete their tasks in a four-day workweek. It seems less stressful to spread work out over more days rather than trying to condense it all into a shorter week.

Dr. Achebe Today, we are going to discuss how successful software and tech products are launched and marketed. When companies launch and market these products, early adopters are important. Early adopters are customers who tend to buy the latest products and like to be the first to try out new features and processes. In today's discussion, I would like you to describe at least one advantage or disadvantage of being an early adopter. Please explain why you think this way. Andrew One obvious disadvantage is that early adopters probably pay a lot more for brand-new technology. When products first come out, they're often quite expensive, but once they've been on the market for a while, the price usually drops. That's why I usually wait to buy new technology. Claire New tech products might not always be more expensive–sometimes the company will give people a new product at a discount in exchange for trying it out and giving feedback on it, In fact, to me, that's the biggest advantage of being an early adopter–your feedback can guide future improvements to a product. That's a powerful feeling.

Doctor Achebe This week in class, we are discussing how concern about the environment is affecting consumer behavior. One recent trend in some countries is that consumers are trying to reuse products and materials as much as possible; for example, by buying used clothing or a used car instead of a new one. In your posts, I want you to discuss either an advantage or a disadvantage of buying used or recycled products as opposed to new ones. Claire Besides the benefits to the environment, one advantage is that many vintage, previously owned products have more charm. For example, old furniture has a lot of character and history, and it always makes a room more interesting. People can even make furniture from reclaimed materials, like making a table from an old wooden door, which always looks unique. Paul Buying used products has its drawbacks. New products are backed by the company that made them. If you buy a new washing machine and it does not work properly, the company will replace or repair it. If you buy something used and it breaks, it's your responsibility to fix it, and the parts are not always available.

Doctor Achebe Many companies provide important products and services but at the same time cause environmental damage. Some people believe the way to prevent these companies from damaging the environment is for the government to require more penalties from them, such as higher taxes and larger fines. Do you think it is a good idea? Andrew A lot of companies make helpful products but hurt the environment too. I think the government should punish them more, like raising their taxes and fines, to stop the damage. Doing that would hold corporations accountable and force them to change in an impactful way. We can have both innovation and sustainability if governments incentivize it properly through penalties. Claire I disagree that we should penalize corporations more for environmental damage. Many companies are already taking steps to adopt greener practices, and higher taxes or fines could discourage innovation and hurt the economy. Instead of punishing businesses, I believe the government should reward and incentivize sustainable choices through subsidies and tax breaks.

Doctor Achebe Let's explore the concept of retail and its variations. In the world of retail, there's a unique type where a wide array of products are housed under one roof, allowing for wholesale purchases. This brings us to the idea of super stores. On the other end, we have small stores catering to specific needs. Now, considering these options, which one do you think holds more advantages for people? Would the convenience of super stores outweigh the personal touch of small stores? Claire In my opinion, super stores hold an edge over small stores due to their wide-ranging product choices, extended hours, and cost- saving options. As a student juggling classes and activities, the convenience of finding everything under one roof and the potential for bulk discounts make superstores a practical choice. While small stores offer a personal touch, the efficiency and budget-friendly nature of super stores align better with my busy college lifestyle. Andrew In my view, small stores outweigh super stores, mainly due to the emphasis on personalized service and repairs. The direct assistance and expertise offered by small stores are invaluable, especially when it comes to electronics or gadgets that might need fixing. While super stores provide convenience, the hands-on support and tailored solutions from small stores align better with my college experience and budget considerations.

Doctor Gupta In the past, progresses in science and technology were generally slow. However, in recent decades, the pace of technological progress has dramatically accelerated, with new discoveries and inventions almost every day. Some argue that the rapid advancement of science and technology is beneficial for society as a whole and should be encouraged. Others believe that this progress is happening too quickly and may lead to serious issues. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Claire The faster the discoveries, the better. For example, due to advancements in medicine, our lives are much better than those of our great-grandparents. Back then, life expectancy was significantly shorter due to a lack of medication, whereas today, drugs are affordable and accessible. Anyone with a severe illness hopes for rapid scientific progress. Andrew Most people don't have a say in the implementation of these new inventions, and that fact worries me. Just think about the widespread unemployment caused by the automation of many jobs: in this era of rapid technological change, it has become commonplace. People who lose their jobs may not believe that this progress is beneficial.

Doctor Diaz We've been discussing government budgets and the difficult decisions governments must make regarding the use of public funds. Some services are clearly essential and must be paid for by any government. But what about public funding of the arts? Do you believe that governments should provide financial support to artists-for example, painters, sculptors, musicians, or filmmakers? Why or why not? Claire I enjoy art as much as anyone does, but public funds come from taxes, and I don't think taxpayers' hard-earned money should be spent on impractical or inessential items and services. Artists should support themselves by selling their work to private individuals and companies. If they can't find enough buyers, then maybe they should change careers. Paul Personally think art actually is essential. Lots of public spaces in my hometown just wouldn't be the same without artwork. From statues in public parks to murals painted on the walls of government buildings, my hometown really benefits from funding the artists who created these works. The public spaces are simply more enjoyable for visitors because of the artwork.

Doctor Achebe In the next few weeks, we'll be talking about urban traffic management. Let's begin by discussing one popular idea-- creating car-free central zones. Some cities around the world have recently designated their downtown areas as being automobile-free which means that vehicles are not allowed to enter the city centers. Do you think that more cities should make their central zones car-free? Why or why not? Claire I support the idea of establishing car-free central zones because this will result in one important benefit for city residents-it will be better for their health. Instead of driving everywhere, people will be encouraged to walk or cycle more. It would be a great way to incorporate exercise into people's routines. Paul It sounds like a good idea, but I'm skeptical. My main concern is that many businesses located in the city centers, such as shops and restaurants, may suffer because the customers will no longer be able to reach those businesses by car. For some customers, if they can't drive, they won't go at all.

Doctor Achebe In the next two weeks, we are going to be studying how biological discoveries have affected our lives. Research in biology provides us with a better understanding of how our bodies work. As an introduction to this topic, I would like for you to discuss among yourselves this question: What is the most important thing a person can do to maintain good health? Please explain why you think so. Claire I feel very strongly that a good diet is the most important factor in maintaining good health. Eating good, healthy foods, especially green vegetables, gives your body the materials it needs to stay strong. Good nutrition is the key to good health. Paul Most people don't visit the doctor for regular checkups. Sure, if they feel sick, they go, but that's not enough. During a yearly exam, a physician can help a patient address health issues before they become a larger problem. So I think preventive doctor visits are key to good health.

Doctor Achebe More and more, online shopping is becoming the primary way that many people obtain everyday goods. But what are the ramifications for the society in which we live? On the one hand, online shopping has advantages-for example, I can make a purchase without ever leaving my home. However, with fewer people shopping at local hops, in some places, these establishments are having a hard time competing. Do you think that online shopping is, on the whole, affecting society? Andrew I think that online shopping has had negative impacts on society. In my city, many local stores have shelves filled with various products that you can find in online stores. This has forced some of them to close down, which not only affects the amount of tax revenue generated in our local community but also impacts the number of job opportunities available to the community members. Kelly It's unfortunate that some local stores are forced to close down, but that's the nature of competition. As consumers, we benefit greatly from online shopping due to lower prices. Even if I find a physical store that can compete with online sellers in terms of pricing, I am still likely to make the purchase online because it means I don't have to spend money on transportation to the store .

Doctor Gupta This week, our focus in class is the creation and evolution of public school policies. A crucial aspect of educational policy pertains to the selection of courses offered in schools. With the emergence of new communication methods and evolving employment opportunities, there is a growing belief that schools should introduce innovative subject. The question i would like to explore is whether these new and unique subjects should be included in the curriculum of public schools. Paul I firmly believe that public schools should introduce new courses. For example, people are increasingly communicating through sharing photos and videos on the internet. I think a course on video composition - how to create compelling and effective videos - would be highly valuable for today's students. There are many other similar topics that students could benefit from as well. Kelly However, I don't believe that high school curriculums need to change drastically. The primary aim of most high school courses is to prepare students for higher education, and those fundamental requirements haven't changed. If students want to learn something like composition or film editing, they can watch instructional videos on the internet. They don't need to take classes in school to learn these things.

Doctor Achebe This week, we'll examine issues in education reform. For example, some educators think that by focusing mainly on foundational knowledge in subjects like reading, math, and science, schools are not fully preparing students for success in the workplace. These educators argue that soft skills- nonacademic skills such as being empathetic or having a strong work ethic — should be part of the curriculum, with classroom time dedicated to developing these skills. Do you agree? Why or why not? Claire I agree. While students need a strong foundation in academic subjects, soft skills are important because they affect how well students do their work. If classroom time is set aside for these skills, students will take them seriously and their academic work will benefit. Teachers could design lessons so that students learn about a skill and then do role-playing activities with classmates. Andrew Soft skills are important, but I don't agree with using classroom time to work on them. I'm not sure how teachers would measure students' progress in developing these skills. If students' progress can't be measured on something being taught. I'm not sure if there's any point to teaching it.

Doctor Achebe Local governments have limited budgets to spend on enriching residents' lives. Supporting arts programs like concerts and museums offers cultural engagement, while funding recreational activities like hiking trails and parks promotes healthy lifestyles. As students who appreciate culture and wellness, let's discuss whether local funding should support arts programs or recreational activities more. Which do you think better serves the community and why? Kelly I think local governments should prioritize spending on outdoor trails and parks rather than arts programs like museums and concerts. More people would use and benefit from improved recreation spaces than arts venues. If fewer residents are interested in the arts, they won't attend museums or concerts even if government funds them. Andrew I believe local governments should actually prioritize spending on arts programs like museums and concerts rather than recreation. Precisely because fewer residents are inherently interested in the arts, public funding is essential to sustain these cultural institutions for the minority who appreciate them. Without support, access to the arts will decline and society will lose these enriching, enduring outlets for creative expression.

Doctor Diaz Today, we will discuss a topic that is important for students and the public at large: namely, how to prioritize spending, given the limited funding available for schools. Some people think schools should spend more money on school teachers' salaries because it would attract more qualified individuals to the profession. On the other hand others believe that the money should be allocated towards additional resources such as books and computers. Which viewpoint do you agree with and why? Kelly I believe that increasing teachers' salaries will improve the quality of education. If they earn more money, people will consider teaching as viable profession rather than opting for private sector jobs. We need the brightest minds in the classrooms. Paul I acknowledge that schoolteachers already earn a decent salary and provide high quality education. I'm not certain how much of an impact increasing their salaries would have. Nonetheless schools always require new equipment or facilities. Knowledge and technology are constantly evolving, and we need to prepare students with the most up-to-date materials possible.

Doctor Gupta We are looking this week at different ways businesses market their products and services especially nontraditional methods. One thing that marketers pay close attention to is online reviews of their products. A business might include customer reviews on their website or carefully monitor the reviews on third-party sites. I would like you to discuss your own experiences with online reviews. Do you find them useful when deciding whether or not to buy a product or service? Why or why not? Claire I think online reviews are a great source of information because they are written by ordinary customers who are like me. For instance, when I read a restaurant review by a professional food critic. I'm not interested in some of the details that are included, like how the food is prepared. I'm more interested in aspects like the quality of the food and the service, which regular customers usually comment on. Andrew To me, online reviews have some real problems. First, people are more likely to post reviews after a bad experience than after a good one. As a result, what you read is often weighted toward the negative. Also, you have no way of knowing whether reviewers know what they are talking about or even if they actually bought and used the product they are reviewing.

Doctor Achebe As we enter a new school year, there is an ongoing debate about school start times. Research shows that teens naturally stay up later and wake up later due to changing sleep patterns during adolescence. Some argue that starting school later would allow teens to get more sleep and be better rested for learning. Given this background, I'd like you to consider whether schools should change the start time to 8:30 a.m. rather than the current 7:30 a.m. Paul Getting up early with insufficient sleep seriously affects classroom quality. I often struggle with early morning classes, feeling groggy and unable to concentrate. Research backs this up, showing that teens have naturally shifted sleep patterns. Starting school at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 a.m. would allow us to get more rest, leading to improved focus, better grades, and overall well-being. It's time to prioritize our sleep and academic success. Kelly The lack of sleep often results from staying up too late, and it indicates a broader issue with the family's daily routines. Children are part of families where schedules can get hectic, affecting their sleep patterns. To address this problem, it's crucial for families to establish consistent sleep schedules and prioritize healthy bedtime routines. This way, we can all ensure that we get the rest we need to succeed in our daily activities, including school.

Doctor Achebe As of this semester I have embarked on a study to explore the various factors influencing children's cognition. It's becoming increasingly evident that a child's surroundings can significantly impact their development. In light of this, the question arises: should parents allow their children to watch online videos, whether for entertainment or educational purposes? Please share your insights on this matter, considering the potential effects on a child's cognitive growth. Paul We should not allow young children, especially those under two years old, to watch videos. It's crucial for their development to engage in real-life communication with others during this critical period. Watching videos doesn't provide the opportunity for meaningful interaction. Even for older children, it's essential to prioritize physical activity over extended screen time. Instead of sitting still in front of screens, they should be encouraged to stay active to support their overall well-being. Kelly I agree that very young children shouldn't be exposed to videos. However, I believe that older children can benefit from watching certain videos, especially those that showcase animals or provide unique insights not easily encountered in everyday life. These videos can be educational and expand their horizons by offering a window into experiences they might not otherwise have access to.

Doctor Achebe In recent years, we've witnessed rapid advancements in science and technology that have transformed various aspects of our lives. These advancements bring about both opportunities and challenges. Now, let's delve into a critical question: Is the rapid pace of technological progress a positive or negative development? Please share your thoughts on whether you believe the fast-paced nature of scientific and technological advancements is ultimately beneficial or detrimental to society, and provide reasons to support your perspective. Paul Certainly. Take, for instance, the field of healthcare. Medical advancements have significantly improved our quality of life and extended our lifespans. These innovations include breakthrough treatments, precision medicine, and cutting-edge medical technologies. As a result, diseases that were once fatal can now be managed or even cured. The increased longevity and enhanced well-being resulting from medical progress are compelling reasons to view rapid technological advancement as a positive force in our society. Kelly Indeed, there are concerns associated with the rapid pace of technological progress. One significant drawback is the potential for job displacement. As technology advances, some traditional jobs become obsolete, leading to unemployment for certain segments of the population. This issue of job loss raises questions about income inequality and the need for retraining programs to equip workers with new skills. Thus, it's essential to recognize that while progress is valuable, it also requires measures to address its adverse consequences.

Doctor Gupta This week, we covered the future of education in a global world. We discussed whether schools should focus on equipping students with skills that will help them be successful anywhere in the world. These skills include being respectful of unfamiliar cultures and studying the history of those cultures. In your post, I would like you to discuss whether schools should make it a priority to prepare students for a global society. Please explain your opinion. Claire To not forget my true identity, students should prioritize learning the values cherished in their local culture. Attempting to cultivate global citizens may result in students losing their own identities. Only after schools have provided students with a solid foundation in the history of their local culture can they then focus on studying the histories of other countries. Andrew Technology has made it easier than ever for people to connect with the world. Therefore, we anticipate that more individuals will work in countries other than their own and benefit from acquiring global skills that will help them succeed anywhere.

Doctor Achebe This week in class we are learning about different methods of advertising and their effectiveness. One advertising strategy that companies often use is to ask celebrities, famous entertainers, or sports figures to promote their products. However some experts believe that it is more effective to have ordinary people talk about the product. Which of these two advertising strategies do you think is better? Paul l like the “ordinary people” approach. People are more interested in a product when they see people like themselves using the product. I think this is even true for clothing advertisements, which traditionally use famous models. People get a better idea of whether they like the clothes when they see all kinds of different people wearing them, and not just models. Kelly l think the use of celebrities is really effective. The first thing an advertisement must do is grab viewers' attention. When a famous actor or sports figure appears in your advertisement, viewers first notice the celebrity, “what's this? l really like that person.” they think. Then, once you have the viewers' attention, you can provide information about your product.

Doctor Achebe In recent years, with the increasing prevalence of online payment methods, we've seen a significant decrease in the use of cash for everyday transactions. This shift has prompted a debate about whether it's a positive or negative development. So, let me pose this question to you: With the decrease in cash usage due to the rise of online payments, do you consider this trend to be positive or negative? Why or why not? Paul This is indeed a positive development because it offers tremendous convenience. We can complete transactions with just our smartphones, eliminating the need to carry a wallet full of cash and coins. This convenience not only streamlines our daily routines but also reduces the risk of theft or loss associated with physical cash. Claire This trend is negative because it disconnects us from our spending habits. When we use cash, we have a tangible sense of how much money we're spending, which helps us keep track of our expenses. With digital payments, it's easier to lose sight of our financial transactions, potentially leading to overspending and financial mismanagement.

Doctor Diaz Next week, we'll examine some challenges that managers face. One challenge is determining how much independence employees should have. Consider this: many managers give employees the freedom to set their own working hours. For example, an employee might choose to start the workday earlier than is typical. But other managers do not allow flexible schedules, arguing that they create problems. In industries where flexible work schedules are possible, do you think this policy would bring more benefits than adversities? Claire Flexible schedules are indeed a good idea. They can effectively address the issue of employees being late to work. By allowing individuals to start their work at the most convenient time for them, it not only benefits the employees, but also eliminates the need for supervisors to constantly check if everyone is “on time”. This arrangement benefits everyone involved. Paul Claire brings up an interesting point, although I'm not fully convinced. What would happen if the employee's clients or colleagues need to reach them? If an employee is unavailable during the typical business hours when most people are conducting business, it could be inconvenient and even frustrating for others. This might negatively impact work relationships, which is not ideal for the company.

Others disagree with this view, arguing that space exploration is a valuable and necessary investment for our future. They think that it is worthy for governments to fund space exploration. I want to know what you think about this topic. Do you think that governments should fund space exploration? Why or why not? Kelly I don't think that governments should fund space exploration, because it will be too costly to build spaceships and develop related technologies. Though space exploration tech costs billions, it doesn't offer direct benefits to most people, which makes its funding a controversial issue. Andrew Personally, I do think that all the costs will be worth it. Dr. Diaz In today’s rapidly evolving job market, skills and knowledge constantly need updating. For adults who are about to start working, lifelong learning is very important and there are many adult courses available today, covering a wide range of subjects. These courses provide an opportunity for continuous learning. In your opinion, which subjects should adults focus on most? What are the areas of knowledge or skills that are most beneficial for adults to learn and why? Andrew I believe learning foreign languages is really important for adults. In modern society, being able to speak different languages is more important than ever. People should aim to learn about 4 to 5 foreign languages if they can. It not only opens doors to different cultures but also gives us an advantage in the professional world. Claire I would say that the arts have a huge role to play in adult learning. They encourage us to think outside the box, to be creative and innovative—skills that are really valued in the modern job market. Plus, engaging in the arts can make us feel happier, help us relax, and let us see things in new ways. It's good for our minds and can make us better at our jobs.

Doctor Achebe Our discussion today is focused on the important decision of pursuing further education. Suppose you are a full-time student who has recently completed a bachelor's degree and you are considering taking your education a step further by getting an advanced degree. There are two ways to do this. Would you choose to study full-time for an advanced degree and then focus on your career later, or pursue a full-time job while still studying to get an advanced degree at the same time? Why? Andrew I think being a full-time student is a better idea because I can't handle a part-time job and studying at the same time. It's important to focus on one thing to do it well. If I tried to do a job and study together, I might end up overextending myself, and that could just lead to disappointment. I'd rather just focus on my studies, without having to worry about a part-time job. Claire I believe it's a good idea to work and study at the same time. The best part about this is that you can use what you learn in class at work right away. It's a great way to put theory into practice. This could mean that I get to use what I learn right away, making me better at my job and possibly impressing my coworkers with the new knowledge I've gained.

Dr. Achebe This week, we'll be discussing solutions to air pollution. In today’s world, excessive consumption and reliance on cars are contributing significantly to this issue. Many economists suggest that the government should increase fuel taxes for cars. By raising the cost of fuel, it's believed that this could discourage overuse of private vehicles and reduce air pollution. Do you agree with this approach? Should there be higher fuel taxes to prevent or combat air pollution? Why or why not? Andrew I believe increasing the fuel tax for cars is a good idea. Cars are a main source of pollution; if the government does this, it could reduce the use of private cars and encourage people to switch to public transportation or other means like cycling. Furthermore, this could significantly decrease air pollution, leading to better public health and a cleaner environment. Claire I disagree with increasing the car fuel tax. I feel that adding taxes for economic reasons feels somewhat like punishing the public, who are not directly responsible for this issue. So, increasing the tax would be meaningless. In other words, the solution should address the source of pollution more directly rather than simply making it more expensive for the general public to use their cars.

Doctor Diaz We've been discussing employee working arrangements-whether employees should report to an office or work at home. Some businesses require all employees to work in the office. Others choose not to have a physical office and have all employees work from home. In industries where remote work is possible what is the most important factor for employers to consider when deciding where employees should work, and why? Claire I don't think businesses should allow their employees to work from home, because creating a sense of community and camaraderie among employees is so important for the success of a business, especially if it's a small business. It is challenging to develop that dynamic when employees are not together physically in the same space. Andrew I think the most important thing to consider is the bottom line: keeping company expenses down. For example, requiring all employees to work from home might be the best option from an economic standpoint. Renting office space is expensive, as are the utility bills. Think of how much money a business could save if employees worked from home.

Doctor Gupta To continue our discussion of the health benefits of good nutrition. I'd like you to consider the broader topic of eating habits-not just what people eat and drink, but how often, how much, and when. Those who want to improve their health often begin by changing some kind of eating habit. This includes a wide range of behavior. What is one poor eating habit that would be important for most people to change, and why? Kelly If people could start with one change to improve their eating habits, it would be to eat a better breakfast. Most people are so rushed in the morning that they don't take the time to sit down and eat a balanced meal. A good breakfast gives you more energy all day and keeps you from eating too much later on. Paul I think most people don't bother to learn much about the food that they eat. This ignorance is a kind of bad eating habit. It can be burdensome, but you should try to read every food package label. The more you can learn about what you're putting in your body, the more likely you'll be to make good decisions.

Doctor Achebe This week, we'll be discussing the future of education. Let's focus now on the following viewpoint: it is no longer useful to spend many years pursuing a traditional, specialized university degree in a single field, such as communications or economics. Instead, it makes more sense for most people to complete several shorter certification programs and earn certificates in, for example, project management, computer programming, graphic design, and so on. Do you agree or disagree with this viewpoint? Why? Kelly I strongly support this approach because it aligns with the changing preferences of many individuals in the modern world who often wish to switch majors or career paths. Embracing certification programs allows people to explore and pursue the fields they are passionate about without the commitment of lengthy degree programs. Andrew University education is a superior choice due to its comprehensive and specialized nature. While certification programs offer quick training, universities provide a more in-depth understanding of a subject. They encourage critical thinking, research skills, and a broader knowledge base. University degrees often lead to higher earning potential and career opportunities.

Doctor Achebe This week's course material will focus on scientific discoveries. While scientific researchers usually prefer to share what they learn with other scientists, many businesses and governments keep certain scientific discoveries secret. Some people believe that all scientific findings should be shared freely among scientists all around the world and that governments and businesses should not keep any discoveries secret. What do you believe and why? Kelly I don't think all discoveries should be shared. Businesses, for example, often spend a lot of money on scientific research in order to make a discovery that can lead to profit. Even if that discovery benefits everyone, the business has a right to keep the discovery secret so that it can develop a profitable product from the research. Andrew Sharing knowledge is crucially important to most scientists. Scientists usually publish the details of their discoveries in scientific journals, which means that everyone can see what the scientists have accomplished. Being recognized as the person who made a discovery is the biggest reward for any scientist. When scientists keep their discoveries secret, they lose that recognition. That is very unsatisfying.

However, others have observed that differences between themselves and people from other countries are growing. In your view, are differences between people from different countries increasing, or are they diminishing? Why? Andrew I think the differences among us are decreasing as our exposure to products from other countries grows. We can enjoy food from any country. We can watch movies made in faraway places. We can go to a store and buy authentic goods from around the world. These things become part of our normal life and make our differences seem smaller. Kelly I understand what Andrew is saying, but for some people, being exposed to differences makes them retreat into their own corner even more. Look at social media. We are exposed to many different people and ideas, but a lot of people talk to only those they agree with and ignore the rest. This only makes the differences between people increase.

Doctor Gupta We have been discussing the idea that human well-being does not necessarily improve as a result of increasing production and consumption of goods and services. Some argue that humans already consume too many goods from clothing to electronics to food; They believe that over-consumption has brought serious problems to human beings and even the earth. Do you agree that over-consumption — buying more than we really need — has become a serious problem? Why? Paul I totally agree. We are buying far more than we need, and this cannot go on indefinitely. For many years, people have used shopping as a form of entertainment. Products bought on a whim fill landfills, and the energy consumed to produce them contributes to the global warming crisis. We should start to reduce our consumption gradually. Claire I don't agree with the idea that over-consumption is a serious problem, I agree that there is some over-consumption, but it mostly happens to the rich. I think in general almost everyone only buys what they need. In fact, many people in the world don't even have access to everything they need.

Doctor Achebe Let's explore the dynamics of social interactions and their impact on our well-being. Socializing in smaller groups versus larger circles can have varying effects on one's health and happiness. Some argue that smaller groups foster deeper connections, allowing for more meaningful interactions and a sense of closeness. Conversely, larger friend circles offer diversity and exposure to different perspectives. Which do you think contributes more to a person's health and happiness: spending time with a close-knit few or a larger group of friends? Andrew Developing strong bonds with a few close friends fosters deeper connections and enhances emotional support. These intimate relationships often lead to increased trust and understanding, allowing for genuine empathy and shared experiences. Small friend groups offer a sense of security and authenticity in interactions, promoting mental well-being. Claire Having a wide circle of friends offers diverse perspectives and experiences, enriching one's social life. Numerous friendships provide a larger support network, creating opportunities for various activities and interests. Engaging with a larger group cultivates adaptability, social skills, and exposure to different cultures or ideas, contributing to personal growth.

Doctor Achebe In today's fast-paced academic and professional environments, opinions diverge regarding the efficacy of to-do lists. Some advocate for their usefulness in enhancing productivity and time management, while others contest their effectiveness. As a student striving to excel in your studies, what is your stance on this matter? Do you agree that to-do lists are beneficial tools for learning and work, or do you think otherwise? Please explain why you think so. Andrew I agree. To-do lists have been instrumental in structuring my daily routine effectively. They serve as a roadmap, aiding in prioritizing tasks and ensuring productivity. Not only do they assist in organizing my schedule, but they also facilitate better time management. To-do lists provide a sense of accomplishment and direction, crucial for navigating through the demands of academics and work responsibilities. Claire While to-do lists offer structure, they might restrict spontaneity and flexibility. Each day unfolds with various unforeseen and interesting events. Embracing the day's spontaneity allows for unexpected opportunities and serendipitous moments. It's crucial to remain adaptable and open to unforeseen experiences, as they often bring valuable insights and learning.

Dr. Gupta In this course, we've been studying current events and discussing the value of being educated consumers of news. However, there is also an opinion that we should periodically limit our exposure to current events and even take breaks from the news. Do you think it is beneficial to take breaks from reading or watching the news for a period of a few days or weeks ? Why or why not ? Claire Beneficial or not, it would be impossible. Today, we're exposed to the news everywhere-on our phones, on our computers, on big TV screens in waiting rooms and in airport lounges. To take a break from the news, you would have to withdraw from all activities in society, which is unrealistic. Andrew I think that taking a break from the news could be helpful psychologically. It obviously depends on how long a break we take. Completely avoiding watching or reading the news maybe too extreme, but taking a short break from the news could help us avoid news stories that may affect us negatively.

Doctor Achebe Today, we're exploring the impacts of children caring for pets. Some people believe that taking care of animals like dogs or cats can teach kids responsibility, empathy, and even improve their social skills. Can having a pet benefit children in their development? What do you think about the idea of kids raising pets? Share your thoughts on whether children benefit from caring for a pet and how this experience might influence their growth and development. Andrew I think children benefit from raising pets, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy. Additionally, nurturing scientific curiosity is crucial for their development. Encouraging hands-on experiments and interactive learning in science enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By combining pet care with scientific exploration, we can help kids develop a well-rounded set of skills. Claire I believe it's not beneficial for kids to raise pets as it's often the parents who end up caring for them. Children might lack the responsibility needed for proper pet care. Moreover, pets require consistent attention, which can be challenging for kids managing school and activities. This situation often results in parents taking on the primary caregiving role.

Please write an essay and argue that the budget on library should be cut since people rarely go there due to the development of online resource. Dr. Gupta We have recently read in our textbook that local or regional governments often need to reduce the amount of money budgeted in some areas in response to economic shortfalls. For instance. a city council may make the difficult decision to spend less on a certain public service for its residents. In your view, in what one or two areas should local or regional governments reduce spending when budget cuts are necessary? Why? Claire My city has a lot of parks that require a lot of upkeep. If there’s a need to reduce expenses, the city could make changes to the parks that make them less expensive to maintain. For example, grass lawns, which need to be cut weekly, could be replaced with other plant species that do not need to be cut frequently. Paul Last time I went to City Hall to take care of some business, l saw a lot of employees standing around and doing nothing. l think the local government may be employing too many workers. It was just an impression I had, but I wonder if this is something that should be reviewed.

Dr. Achebe Let's discuss the skills most needed by people who want to start and run their own business. Some experts propose that future businesspeople should focus on improving their sales techniques—after all, if you cannot sell your product, you will soon be out of business. Others believe that these future businesspeople would benefit most from learning management skills, such as how to lead teams and motivate employees. Which view do you agree with? Why? Andrew I think that management skills are most important. Sales tasks are something that a businessperson can delegate to a team of salespeople once the business gets going, so it is really important that the future businessperson develops skills to manage teams of people. Without that, it is not very likely that the business will grow. Kelly Learning how to sell your product is the most essential task. I've read about people who had ideas about exciting new products to build a business around. They borrowed capital and started their business, but they could not explain to the public what made the products exciting. Since they could not sell enough products, their business failed.

Dr. Diaz This week, we'll be talking about continuing education. Many people who have university degrees and work full-time jobs want to deepen their knowledge and skills. Some of them decide to continue their education by enrolling in advanced degree programs, such as master's or doctorate programs. Do you think that it is a good idea to pursue an advanced degree while continuing to work full-time? Why or why not? Andrew I think it's better to stop working and become a full-time student. It's challenging to combine a full-time job and studies and one may easily fall behind. Focus on one thing at a time and do it well rather than try to do both and do neither very well. Overextending yourself can lead to disappointment. Claire I think it is a good idea to study for an advanced degree while continuing to work full-time. Some of my friends took that path One advantage, they told me, was that what they had learned in class they could use at work right away, and the coworkers were very impressed.

Dr. Diaz This week, we talked about strategies for planning our work effectively. One strategy is the to-do list, which is a list of tasks that must be accomplished daily or weekly. Some people believe to-do lists are extremely helpful, while others believe they can cause us to be overwhelmed and lose focus on what is really important. In this discussion, share your view about using time-management strategies such as to-do lists: How helpful are they for your work or studies? Why? Claire I can't function without to-do lists. I outline what my plan is every day, because it helps me clarify what my goals are for the day. This provides the clear structure that I need to be productive. The best part of my day is when I check off my accomplishments at the end of the day and celebrate my small achievements. Andrew It's interesting how things work differently for different people. I find to-do lists unproductive because I usually overload them with a lot of tasks and end up completing only a few items from the list. This makes me less motivated for the next day.

Dr. Diaz Today there are many educational computer programs and applications designed to teach people what they want to learn. Many teachers use these developing technologies to help them teach their students, although it is still widely assumed that human teachers have a vital role to play in formal education. Other people believe that human teachers could one day be replaced by extremely sophisticated educational technologies. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Why? Claire Computer technologies could actually motivate students even more than human teachers do. Many young people spend hours playing video games, which are really just sophisticated computer programs that challenge a human player with a variety of tasks. If educational applications challenged students in appealing ways, as video games do, they could hold students' interest longer than human teachers do. Andrew I think it's doubtful that educational technologies could ever satisfactorily replace human teachers in the classroom. An important part of education is motivation to learn. Educational technologies may work well for people who want to learn, but they probably can't motivate students who are bored by a particular subject. An effective human teacher can spark student interest.

Dr. Achebe Today, we're exploring the enduring impact of traditional media in our modern society. Despite the emergence of digital platforms, traditional media such as television and books continue to wield significant influence. Now, considering their impact on shaping perspectives and opinions, I'd like your insights. In your view, do you believe television holds greater importance, or do books exert a stronger impact on individuals in today's society? Explain the reasons behind your perspective, considering their respective reach and engagement. Andrew Unlike books that require literacy skills and resources, television offers information readily available to a vast audience, lts audio-visual nature captivates diverse demographics, reaching individuals regardless of literacy levels. For instance, television news broadcasts reach millions instantly, shaping collective perspectives. lts immediacy and visual storytelling also create lasting impressions, influencing opinions and societal views more directly compared to the slower, more introspective impact of books. Claire Books wield greater influence in modern society owing to their ability to convey specialized and in-depth knowledge. Unlike television, which often presents condensed or generalized information, books delve profoundly into various subjects, providing comprehensive insights and expertise. This depth allows readers to explore diverse perspectives, fostering critical thinking and nuanced opinions based on substantial information

Dr. Gupta Ensuring that high school students get the education they need is challenging. Some educators are recognizing that regular classes at school may not be enough to prepare students for careers and for life. Because of this, they recommend that all high school students be required to spend a specific number of hours learning useful skills outside school. Others think that this requirement is not appropriate for all students. Which view do you agree with? Why? Andrew I believe that it is important to learn some skills outside school, but I disagree that this should be a requirement. Many high school students are already overburdened with core subjects like mathematics or history. Since those students are already struggling to find time to study, learning other things outside school can wait until after they graduate from high school. Claire I think that learning outside the classroom is a necessity, and agree that it should be required. Many students lack basic life skills––such as budgeting, first aid, or cooking-and this has many negative consequences. Students could learn basic life skills outside school under the guidance of parents or experts in various fields.

Dr. Gupta To continue our discussion on adopting an environmentally friendly lifestyle, let's explore the role that individuals can play in keeping the Earth as clean as possible. Recycling is the most common action taken to help keep the environment clean, but studies show that recycling alone is not enough. Other than recycling, what is one action that a person could take that would have the greatest impact on protecting the environment? Why? Kelly It might be better to pay more attention when we are shopping and to avoid purchasing items that aren’t environmentally friendly, such as single-use plastic items. Doing so would save time and energy because we will not have to recycle anything, and it might even leave us with more time to help the environment in other ways. Andrew People should try to prevent pollution just like Kelly suggests, but it might be better to first address the pollution that already exists in our environment. If people plant trees and shrubs in their yards or in the local parks, these trees and shrubs might absorb pollutants that we breathe in and help to clean the air in our cities.

Doctor Achebe As we have been discussing in class, deciding where to donate money is an important consideration when supporting charitable causes. Some prefer local charities where the impact may be more visible, while others favor international ones tackling issues on a broader scale. With this in mind, when donating money to charity, what factors do you take into account when choosing between local and international organizations? Andrew I prefer to give to local charities rather than international ones. Local organizations where l live allow me to witness firsthand the impact my contributions make. The visible difference––even a small amount––motivates me to keep supporting groups creating visible change close to home. Claire I believe supporting international charities is most impactful. Though local charities do good work, global issues like climate change and poverty affect millions more people. International groups have the scale and resources to drive systematic change on these pressing problems in ways smaller organizations simply can't. Donating to major international charities can thus create widespread, meaningful impact.

An effective response will contain at least 100 words Dr. Achebe Traffic congestion during rush hours is a significant issue in urban city centers. To mitigate this problem, governments have various solutions aimed at reducing the number of vehicles on the road. One proposed solution involves charging drivers a fee or tax for driving during peak traffic hours. Do you believe this could effectively alleviate traffic congestion? Why or why not? Claire I think charging drivers a fee during peak traffic hours could be a great idea to ease the traffic congestion we face every day, it might encourage more drivers to opt for biking or carpooling, which could significantly benefit the environment and ease overall traffic. For instance, in cities where similar measures have been introduced, there has been a noticeable decrease in the number of vehicles during rush hours. Paul I believe imposing fees for driving during peak hours might not be the best solution to ease traffic congestion. It could adversely affect businesses and create economic disadvantages for many individuals. Such charges might burden workers who rely on their cars for commuting, especially those with fixed schedules or limited transportation options.

Dr. Diaz For over fifty years, humans have been actively exploring outer space. People have been successfully sent to the Moon and back, and many space probes have been sent to planets in our solar system. This exploration of space is extremely expensive and could divert attention from other pressing matters. Some people believe that we should stop space exploration until serious problems here on Earth, such as poverty or climate change, have been solved. Do you agree? Why or why not? Claire I disagree because space exploration isn't just about getting people into space or landing space probes on other planets. lt’s about learning new things. Scientists want to know more about outer space, and space exploration has also led to useful technological inventions, such as miniature digital cameras. Space exploration may one day lead to discoveries that benefit people enormously. Andrew I don't think I agree with Claire's point about the necessity of space exploration to spark new discoveries. Important technologies can also be developed in the process of solving serious problems here on Earth, like when medicines are developed to improve people's health. Therefore, I agree that space exploration should not be a priority.

Others contend that it is the small, cumulative actions of individuals that lead to the greatest impact, so public awareness and altered societal norms are most critical, I would like you to consider: who do you believe should make more efforts when it comes to environmental protection––factories or individuals? Andrew Factories should take the lead on protecting the environment because their impact is massive compared to individuals, For example, a single factory can generate tons of pollution per day, dwarfing what one person produces in a lifetime, Strict regulations and greener technologies for manufacturers would lead to huge reductions in emissions and waste. Claire Individuals should lead on environmental protection because we can drive cultural change, By making green lifestyle choices––reducing energy, taking public transit minimizing waste––we set an example and normalize sustainability. And by purchasing eco-products and ethical companies, everyday consumer decisions incentivize businesses to follow suit.

Charitable or community-support activities range from cleaning up neighborhoods to running youth clubs or caring for older people. But many communities experience a problem: there are not enough people willing to do charitable or community work. What is one good way to encourage more people to do charitable or community work? Claire Others might disagree, but l think one way to get more people to do charitable work is to pay them for their time. Even a small amount that a charitable organization coordinating the work could afford would help. l think younger people in particular would be more willing to participate if they could earn a little money. Paul I'm not sure l agree with Claire. People should participate because it is the right thing to do, not because there is a financial reward. Maybe the solution is in making people understand how important community work is. lf people have a better understanding of that, they will be more willing to do their part.
